Will PSG fans be able to gather in a specific place in Paris on the evening of a potential Champions League double? The Paris Police Prefecture has stated its “opposition” to the establishment of a fan zone in Paris for the final between PSG and Arsenal on May 30, as reported on Saturday, May 9, by AFP. The new mayor of Paris, Emmanuel Grégoire, recently expressed interest in setting up a fan zone for the capital club’s second consecutive final, scheduled for Saturday, May 30 at 6 p.m. in Budapest.
However, the Paris Police Prefecture (PP) reminds us that several events are already scheduled for the same day, including a concert by singer Aya Nakamura at the Stade de France, another by rapper Damso at La Défense Arena, and another by Bouss at the Accor Arena. The 2026 Roland-Garros tennis tournament will also be ongoing.
“The police prefecture is in discussions with all parties involved to allow residents of the Paris region to enjoy the festivities safely,” assures the PP to AFP, emphasizing the need to ensure security for both those celebrating and those who might disrupt the peace. At this stage, the Paris Police Prefecture is opposed to setting up a fan zone in Paris on May 30, according to AFP. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez had expressed concern about the mayor of Paris unilaterally announcing a fan zone for the final evening. “Usually,” he explained, “we discuss a bit with the police prefect before that. That was not the case here. We need to see where this fan zone will be organized.”
On the other hand, Maxime Sauvage, the deputy in charge of sports at the Paris City Hall, stated on FranceInfo that they still have the desire to organize the fan zone, emphasizing ongoing discussions with partners including the Parisian club. The Parc des Princes, like last year during the Champions League final, is one of several options for setting up the fan zone. The deputy mentioned potential locations such as the Champs Elysées, the Cours de Vincennes, or other spaces like a stadium. He expressed regret that the potentially only free event on May 30 might not take place, and hopes to announce a location next week.
After the victory in the semi-finals against Bayern, 127 people were arrested in the Paris area, 11 were injured, including one seriously, and 23 police officers were slightly injured. Last year, after the Champions League victory, law enforcement made over 500 arrests following celebrations marred by incidents in Paris and other regions.
