Between the Nîmes renaissance and Cévennes ambition, supporters of NO and OAC are starting to believe in better days ahead.

What a season ending for the two major clubs in Gard. Nîmes Olympique and OAC are offering a completely unexpected final sprint, to the point of dreaming of a return to better days in the hierarchy of French football. And yet, just a few months ago, no one would have bet a penny on such a scenario. In Nîmes, the Crocodiles were barely emerging from the chaos left by the Rani Assaf era. Between financial uncertainties, unstable governance, and the threat of bankruptcy, the club seemed destined for a dizzying fall all the way down to Regional 1, deep in amateur football. In Alès, the trajectory seemed just as fragile. After a remarkable first half of the season, OAC had several points deducted in December following complaints from OM and Lyon-La Duchère for fielding too many transferred players. An administrative sanction that could weigh heavily when the final verdict is reached. And yet, both clubs are still standing. A delicious irony: Gard supporters are now dreaming of two completely opposite scenarios, but equally exciting. If Nîmes fails to move up to Ligue 3 while OAC climbs to National 2, Gard could see two fiery derbies next season. A match-up that would immediately revive local interest in football. But another dream also exists: that of NO finally rising again and OAC continuing its progress with a new ambitious project to eventually return to a professional level. On the other hand, both clubs could also lose everything at the last moment and remain stuck on the same level, with the cruel sensation of having let a unique opportunity slip away. As is often the case with football: a few weeks are enough to go from absolute despair to wild hope.
