Released in August 2025 with a Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 “Strix Point”, the A9 Max that we tested in November returns to the workbench for 2026. The new version swaps this chip for the Ryzen AI 9 HX 470, codenamed “Gorgon Point” at AMD. Sober announcement, identical design, same lines as the previous model.
Gorgon Point, a restyled Strix Point
The problem is that Gorgon Point is not really a new generation. Same Zen 5 architecture on the CPU side, same Radeon 890M GPU in RDNA 3.5, same NPU XDNA 2. AMD is mainly content to push the boost from 5.1 to 5.2 GHz. A few percent gain in practice, but not a generational leap.
The A9 Max 2026 also remains under the A9 Mega from Geekom, which relies on the AMD Strix Halo, which is much more muscular.
On the case side, Geekom adds IceBlast 3.0 cooling announced as “52% more efficient”, without specifying in relation to what, and retains the connectivity (two USB 4 ports, five USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A, a 2.5 Gigabit LAN). The entry configuration at 32 GB of RAM and 2 TB of storage is priced at €1,699 on Amazon, with compatibility extended up to 128 GB.
At this price, the Minisforum AI X1 Pro-470 that we tested in February has exactly the same chip: the purchase is seriously compared before signing.
