Fortnite developer Epic Games has shed light on the upcoming Overwatch crossover event, which kicks off following this week’s big new update. Coinciding with the recent Overwatch ten-year anniversary, the imminent Fortnite celebration features a host of new features and unlockables, including new skins, map locations, weapons and more.
It’s the headline part of Fortnite Chapter 7, Season 2: Act 3, which has a May 14 release date on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, PC and mobile. The event begins following the release of update 40.40, which will be available to download when servers go offline at 9am BST UK time on May 14. The servers will be back online at 11am BST in the UK, which is when you can check out the new Fortnite content.
According to a social media post by Epic Games, the Overwatch event is headlined by the release of a number of crossover skins.
Fortnite fans will be able to grab skins based on popular Overwatch heroes Tracer, Genji, D.VA and Mercy.
The Fortnite map will also undergo multiple changes, adding new points of interest based on Overwatch battlegrounds.
This includes new Points of Interest based on Hanamura, King’s Row and Buasan Drum Pavilion. Various Overwatch-style Watchpoints will also be added to the Fortnite Island.
Elsewhere, Fortnite fans will be able to utilise a number of new Overwatch weapons and items. This includes the Caduceus Staff and Pulse Pistols.
According to Epic Games, fans can take advantage of no Lethal Fall Damage, which could make matches even more exciting.
There will also be some new Showdown Milestones to unlock, including what appears to be an Overwatch Loot Box.
Zero Build will also receive new gameplay features, such as infinite sprint with Pickaxe, as well as lots more.
While the Overwatch crossover is grabbing all of the headlines, Fortnite update 40.40 will add other new gameplay features and skins.
