With international experience of 21 caps, David Ainu’u is not the type to count down the days until June 11 and the opening of the 2026 World Cup, co-hosted in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The player from Stade Toulousain, currently in the final stretch with the Top 14 playoffs in sight, is not necessarily paying attention to this event that will, however, captivate a good part of the planet.
Other priorities. While the kickoff of the 2026 World Cup is about to take place (June 11 – July 19), David Ainu’u is not really paying attention. Yet, this event will take place notably in his home country, on American soil. “Honestly, I don’t care,” said the prop from Stade Toulousain on Friday at a press conference, 48 hours before the “red and black” team’s match on the field against La Rochelle (9:05 PM).

It seems that the only event in June that interests the prop from Stade Toulousain is the Top 14 semi-finals, scheduled for June 19 and 20 in Marseille. “It will be cool but I haven’t seen much, haven’t read much about the World Cup in the United States. If I can watch a game, I will, but I am not focused on it at all,” recalls someone who was born in American Samoa and crossed the Atlantic in 2017 to join the Pink City.

More into American football, David Ainu’u doesn’t have much chance to watch the United States – Australia on June 19. Perhaps he will observe the match against Paraguay six days later, or against Turkey on June 26, the day before the Top 14 final. It has been almost a century since the Team USA is looking to do better than a lost semi-final in 1930 in the first World Cup.
