PSG and Ligue 1 humiliated on worldwide television

The Professional Football League faced various obstacles and hastily organized the Paris Saint-Germain title celebration before the derby against Paris FC on Sunday. The event was poorly executed and did not reflect well on Ligue 1.

Paris Saint-Germain will not remember the trophy presentation fondly. On Sunday evening, an hour before the lost derby against Paris FC (2-1), the French champions briefly celebrated in a corner of Stade Jean-Bouin. This celebration did not do justice to the journey of Luis Enrique’s men, nor to the championship as a whole, according to journalist Romain Beddouk, who expressed his frustration in his column.

“It was a very sad evening for Paris Saint-Germain and French football in general,” said Ici Paris Île-de-France columnist. “It started with this ridiculous celebration: a banner, no podium, no music, no fireworks, just in a corner before the match, with players in sneakers while the stadium speaker was announcing something else. Maybe you thought I was talking about Sunday morning’s trophy presentation… But no, apparently, even for this trophy, there is a protocol. No, I am describing the trophy presentation ceremony of Ligue 1, the elite of French football. Quite a ridiculous and embarrassing moment.”

“It may not have been embarrassing for PSG, but more for the guarantors of Ligue 1 competitiveness. Presenting the trophy in this manner is the worst way to belittle the competition. Here, the organizer completely frankly acknowledges: ‘Yeah, our thing is not really worth it,'” interpreted Romain Beddouk, before pointing fingers at the culprits. “There are many responsible parties. I blame the LFP for messing up its schedule and guidelines to be given to clubs hosting the French champions.” The Parisian observer then criticized the authorities who rejected Paris Saint-Germain.

“I also blame the Paris Police Prefecture, which rejected all proposals to celebrate it properly at Parc des Princes, a street facing Jean-Bouin, because the Police Prefecture doesn’t know how to manage two flows of supporters from two different clubs. So, when you don’t know what to do, the decision is to forbid it. Funny to see the vision of freedom… And then there is Paris FC, which did absolutely nothing to improve the situation, whether in terms of timing before the match or the space allocated. It could have been at the center of the field, but no, it was in a corner. Quite comical for a club supposed to be a brother or friend. So, regarding this protocol, the evening was quite shameful for French football,” emphasized the journalist.
