The pop duo Vilain Coeur unveiled their music video Madame Caprice, a fable about self-discovery released on May 17 for the day against homophobia.

After a successful single in collaboration with JoeyStarr, “Where I Come From”, the duo Vilain Coeur presented their new music video, “Madame Caprice”, on Sunday, May 17. Released on the occasion of the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia, this visual and musical masterpiece sensitively explores the notions of identity, vulnerability, and the critique of a society obsessed with recognition.

A disenchanting tale of self-discovery

The music video for “Madame Caprice” presents itself as a modern and disenchanting tale. It features a woman, portrayed by a transgender actress, engaging in a ruthless duel with her own reflection in a mirror. The duality is at the heart of the visual narrative, symbolized by a strong chromatic opposition between vibrant pink and deep blue. “Mirror, mirror, tell me who is the truest…,” questions the song, illustrating this inner struggle between the projected image and the truth of being. The choice of the release date is not coincidental: it is, according to the creators, a “symbolic moment to pay tribute to the profound quest for self.”

A critique of the society of appearances

Through a unique pop melody, the duo questions the “perpetual need for recognition that corrodes our contemporary society.” The song addresses the internal void that neither overconsumption nor appearances can fill. By exploring this contrast between the ideal and vulnerability, Vilain Coeur delivers a text that aims to resonate the intimate in a universal dimension, a trademark of the group.

The chemistry of an atypical duo

Vilain Coeur is composed of Cris, who writes and sings, and Sofi, who composes and arranges. Former members of the group Glasgow, they have forged a creative alchemy based on complementarity. They describe themselves as “two ventricles to make one Vilain Coeur beat,” a metaphor for their assumed parity and artistic complicity, both in the studio and on stage. Their approach consists of exploring the flaws of the human being on complex pop melodies, carried by an embodied and sensitive writing.

Stories with finesse and roots

Their recent EP, “Le cimetière des chats,” reflects this artistic ambition. The album brings together five tracks that poetically address fundamental themes such as mental health, ecology, uprooting, and the grieving process. JoeyStarr’s contribution on the track “Where I Come From” adds an additional intensity to this opus that navigates between melancholy and the quest for optimism.

The music video for “Madame Caprice” is available on the group’s YouTube channel. Vilain Coeur can also be found on Facebook and Instagram.
