PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS Update V4.2 introduces a major feature for solo players with Ally Duo mode, which incorporates an AI ally capable of interacting with players in real-time, offering support and creating a unique and immersive cooperative experience.

- Krafton is officially beta testing a new “Ally Duo” mode in update V4.2, allowing solo players to team up with an AI companion.
- The new game mode is fully accessible within the existing Free-to-Play structure, with no cost of entry.
- This technical test will determine whether Autonomous AI Agents will become a permanent part of Battle Royale’s main matchmaking queues.
Krafton is currently beta testing a standalone teammate system in PUBG’s latest themed mode: BATTLEGROUNDS.
This update introduces Ally Duo, a new Arcade mode in which players form a team of two with the AI character, Ella, on the Sanhok map.
The beta test is launched from June 17 to July 1. According to the announcement, Krafton specifies that “PUBG Ally uses voice recognition (STT) and text-to-speech (TTS) technologies to interact with players in real time.”
“Unlike traditional NPCs (non-player characters) that react according to fixed conditions, PUBG Ally simultaneously processes player voice commands and changing in-game situations to generate appropriate actions and responses.”

What features are included in the PUBG Ally Duo beta mode?
The PUBG Ally Duo beta features real-time voice communication, automated item collection, and movement protocols synchronized across the Sanhok map.
Powered by an onboard reduced language model, companion character Ella processes player voice commands to execute strategic maneuvers and tactical actions with minimal operational latency.
Unlike older non-player characters operating via static scripts, this system uses speech recognition and synthesis technologies. According to Krafton’s official press release, the Companion synthesizes live contextual data to make autonomous tactical decisions.
The system supports voice interaction in English, Korean and Chinese during the initial testing phase. This setup allows players to coordinate their repositioning, item collection, and combat engagement strategies via natural dialogue.
Which platforms are eligible for the V4.2 update?
PUBG V4.2 is available on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, iOS and Android. The update is completely free on all current and previous generation hardware ecosystems.
Krafton ensures full parity for new AI mechanics on these established systems. The deployment avoids any price barriers, preserving the game’s fundamental free-to-play model.
How will Krafton evaluate the success of this AI integration?
Krafton will evaluate the success of this AI integration by monitoring telemetry metrics and direct community feedback collected throughout the two-week global trial.
The developers intend to evaluate how conversational fluidity, tactical responsiveness, and system latency impact overall match balance and matchmaking queues.
