A valuable reinforcement. While currently playing for the Glasgow Warriors (Scotland), Johnny Matthews will be playing for US Montauban starting next season, as announced by the bottom team in the Top 14 league on Tuesday, April 7th.

Two selections with the Thistle XV

Born in Liverpool in 1993, Johnny Matthews, who has a solid experience as a hooker (108 matches played with Glasgow and two caps with Scotland), is getting ready to discover a new league wearing the jersey of US Montauban.

But, he won’t just be a tourist in the City of Ingres as he will reunite with two former teammates, prop Lucio Sordoni and lock Lewis Bean, whom he played with at the Warriors.

A true product of the Scottish system, he is here to bolster our pack for the next three seasons (until 2029),” USM wrote in a statement

Formidable finisher

Despite only playing for one club throughout his career, this Scottish international (1m83 tall and 110 kg) is also known across the Channel for his formidable finishing abilities.

Indeed, Johnny Matthews has scored 51 tries in 110 professional appearances, including 16 in just one season (2023-2024).

With almost 1 try every two games, USM fans should not have to wait long to see their new recruit in action at Sapiac from next August.
