Ludhiana: The Dr Gurdev Singh Khush Foundation for the Advancement of Agricultural Sciences held its annual award function, honoring academic excellence and contributions to agricultural research and development. A total of 72 GS Khush Merit Scholarships were given to outstanding undergraduate students from rural areas of Punjab at Punjab Agricultural University and Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University in Ludhiana. Additionally, five GS Khush Travel Grants were awarded to faculty members and postgraduate students for international conference participation. A merit scholarship was also presented to the top student at PAU Model High School in Sri Muktsar Sahib.
The Dr Darshan Singh Brar Award in Agriculture 2026 was bestowed upon Dr Tilak Raj Sharma for his significant contributions to rice improvement and molecular breeding for disease resistance. Dr Darshan Singh Brar Young Scientist Award 2026 went to Dr Buta Singh Dhillon for his work in rice production and management. Dr Anil Kumar Sharma received the Award for Excellence in Communication for his agricultural communication efforts.
During the event, Dr Jatinder Paul Singh Gill discussed the role of livestock in Punjab’s agriculture and economy, emphasizing integrated farming systems. Dr SS Johl and Kahan Singh Pannu highlighted the importance of diversifying agriculture, focusing on animal husbandry and horticulture. Dr Satbir Singh Gosal praised the Foundation’s support for rural students and agricultural education, while Dr Gurdev Singh Khush commended the award recipients and faculty members for their dedication.
