30 years ago, in 1996, the first regional inter-school traditional music competition, organized in Lannion, at the Felix-Le-Dantec high school, crowned the duo Hamon-Martin. Now a quintet, the musical group remains a cornerstone of the Breton music scene. The Trégor competition, after a long break in the early 2000s, is still ongoing. On Friday, April 10, its 21st edition started around 9:30 a.m. in the auditorium of the Lannion high school.

This year’s program featured six musical groups in order of appearance: Stered (Lannion), Coquelikollet (Lannion), Steredenn Glaz (Quimper), Madafenn (Lannion), Gwidreüs (Quimper), and Tro-Spered (Lannion). The jury, chaired by Nolwenn Le Buhé, announced the result of the competition around 3 p.m.

“This year, we didn’t manage to single out a group,” said artist Nolwenn Le Buhé, godmother of this edition. Two groups were named the winners of the competition. Steredenn Glaz, originally from the Cornouaille school in Quimper, was composed of Raphaël Raoul-Le Maître, 17 years old (violin), Ewan Le Goasduff, 17 years old (bagpipe), Sinquin Suzy, 17 years old (bass), and Élise Boinot-Turpault, 16 years old (harp). The Lannion group Tro-spered, from the Felix-Le-Dantec high school, also excelled. Its members were Anouk Le Bihan, 17 years old (violin), Anaya Le Bihan, 15 years old (violin), and Noa Domigues-Denoual, 16 years old (vocals).

In the coming weeks, the winners will be invited to perform on various Breton music stages.
