Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang drew attention when he acknowledged that the global robotics industry relies heavily on Chinese supply chains, particularly for critical components such as motors, sensors and rare earths. This statement comes as major American technology companies like Tesla and Google accelerate the development of humanoid robots, but depend on Chinese suppliers to manufacture the “bodies” of these machines. A perfect example of this is the Olaf robot – a collaboration between Nvidia and Google – which, despite its advanced artificial intelligence, still needs Unittree’s motion technology to function flexibly. According to experts, the United States currently leads in the field of AI chips and algorithms, while China controls much of the manufacturing supply chain, from microelectronics to high-performance magnets, creating a balance of interdependence in the robotics industry. A Morgan Stanley report shows that Chinese companies launched nearly three times as many humanoid robots as American companies over the past year, thanks to the advantages of large-scale production and low costs. At the same time, American companies face cost and public policy pressures, forcing them to source cheaper components from China or even adapt their supply chains to Southeast Asia to avoid tariff barriers. Beyond just manufacturing, China is also pursuing a long-term strategy to build an “impenetrable” robotics supply chain by 2027, transforming the sector into a pillar of the national economy and technology. Jensen Huang’s analysis suggests that the future of robotics will not be about a race for AI, but will also be a battle for control of the supply chain, an area where China holds an advantage that the world is wary of.
