Popular white rice facing nationwide recall over ‘foreign material’

A popular brand of rice sold in stores across the country has been recalled over possible “foreign material.â€

A recall of two-pound bags of Lundberg Organic Jasmine White Rice was recalled by Wegmans April 4 over a a foreign contaminant, but the grocery chain did not specify what the material was.

Wegmans is offering a full refund for the allegedly tainted rice.

Lundberg Family Farms, which manufactures the rice, confirmed to USA Today that they voluntarily issued the recall nationwide out of an abundance of caution.

The rice is subject to a class II recall, which the Food and Drug Administration defines as a situation that could lead to “temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences†if exposed to the tainted substance.

No illnesses have been reported from exposure to the rice, and the recall is limited to a single production run of 4,500 cases of the product, Lundberg Family Farms said.

In addition to Wegmans, the rice is sold at several other national retailers, including Whole Foods, Walmart and Target.

Bags affected by the recall contain the universal product code 073416- 040281.

Rice bags with best by dates of Feb. 1, 2027 and a lot code of 260201 and a best by date of Feb. 2, 2027 and a lot code of 260202 are affected by the recall.

The move comes as the FDA recalled several bread products from supermarket shelves including a popular Trader Joe’s brand Focaccia Bread.

The recall was issued after metal fragments were found in pieces of the bread, per the FDA.
