While ASVEL got the better of Saint-Quentin, Bourg-en-Bresse concluded the 26th day of Betclic Elite by inflicting a heavy defeat on Monaco.
The excitement continues in Bourg-en-Bresse. Building on a qualification for the Eurocup final, Frédéric Fauthoux’s players corrected Monaco to conclude the 26th day of Betclic Elite. The match started with both teams responding to each other. However, the “Roca Team” took the lead with a significant 8-0 run led by Nikola Mirotic (13 points). The Burgiens responded before taking a four-point lead at the end of the first quarter. Although the Monégasques suffered a setback at the beginning of the second quarter, they managed to reduce the deficit to one point but failed to regain the lead on the scoreboard.
Led by Assemian Moularé (19 points), the teammates raced ahead to the locker room with an eight-point lead. At the start of the second half, Monaco showed their current limitations. JLB then extended their lead to over ten points and never relinquished it. Despite efforts from Elie Okobo’s teammates (19 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists) to react, they couldn’t cut the deficit. In a packed Ekinox arena, the final quarter was completely dominated by the Burgian team. A final basket from Khadim Kane (3 points) allowed Bourg-en-Bresse to win by 23 points (104-81) and consolidate its fourth position in the standings.
ASVEL continues to hang on.
This result was even more important as ASVEL had applied pressure. A few hours before this match, the Rhodaniens had upheld their hierarchy at the reception of Saint-Quentin. Second-to-last in the standings, SQBB started the match without hesitation, but this mindset quickly proved insufficient against a rampant Shaquille Harrison (32 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists). Pierric Poupet’s players concluded the first quarter with a narrow six-point lead. This advantage was maintained as ASVEL built an eleven-point margin before experiencing an unexpected setback.
With only two points scored in under five minutes, the Rhodaniens saw Saint-Quentin turn the tables and take the lead. Melvin Ajinça (6 points) then scored an “and one” to lead his team at halftime. Despite the impressive resistance from Eddie Ekiyor (22 points, 5 rebounds) and his teammates, ASVEL managed to retain their lead throughout the third quarter. Despite some late worries, ASVEL eventually secured a second consecutive victory (86-70). This result keeps Tony Parker’s club in contention with Bourg-en-Bresse for fourth place in the standings.
