French gamers are spending more on gaming despite concerns over game purchases

Thanks to the successful launch of this new console, the expenses of the French in the gaming ecosystem have increased by 3%. But the health of game purchases is more worrying.

After a significant drop in 2024, the video game market is showing signs of improvement in France. According to the annual study by the Syndicat des Éditeurs de Logiciels de Loisir (Sell), French spending on consoles, gaming PCs, accessories, and games on consoles, PCs, and smartphones increased by 2.9% in 2025. With 5.85 billion euros in purchases, they have reached their second-best historical level, “despite an unfavorable context, with strong constraints on household purchasing power,” according to Sell.

This improved situation can be explained by two factors. Firstly, the strong performance of mobile games, which now represent almost a third of the market with 1.8 billion euros in purchases (+11%). Some figures are staggering. The French spent 119 million euros last year on Coin Master and 86 million euros on Monopoly Go, both of which are free mobile games. Roblox, the children’s favorite platform, which is also free, has generated 20 million euros in revenue.
