With a focused performance on Monday evening, Laura Siegemund won her opening match at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix against Bulgarian Wiktorija Tomowa with a score of 4:6, 7:6, 6:1. The Stuttgart native will face Polish player Iga Swiatek in the round of 16.

Siegemund took some time to get into the game against Wiktorija Tomowa. She was behind 0:3 in the first set before showcasing her strengths at the net more and more. While she managed to equalize to 4:4 at one point, she ultimately lost the set.

In the second set, a real thriller unfolded: Siegemund fought hard for several break points but couldn’t capitalize on them at crucial moments. It wasn’t until the sixth break point that she scored to make it 3:2. Despite obtaining a second break, the 38-year-old couldn’t secure the set win. In the tiebreak, it seemed like she had no answer to Tomowa’s game after falling behind 0:4. However, Siegemund made a comeback, winning seven points in a row and securing the second set with a precise forehand shot at 7:6.

With this momentum, Siegemund started the third set, achieving the first break, the second break, and winning the first match point. “If you’re not playing well, you have to fight. And that’s what I did,” she said in an interview with the organizer. Siegemund will continue her campaign on Tuesday afternoon, teaming up with her doubles partner Vera Swonarjowa to take on the Spanish duo Aliona Bolosova and Yvonne Cavalle-Reimers.
