PUBG: BLINDSPOT is over. ARC Team and PUBG Corporation have confirmed that the top-down tactical shooter will permanently shut down its servers on March 30, less than two months after its early access launch on February 5. The game will not even reach its second month of existence.

The closure announcement, posted on the game’s Steam community hub by Sequoia Yang of ARC Team, is straightforward about the reason: the team is “no longer able to sustainably provide the level of experience we aimed to offer through early access.” No precise figures were disclosed, no strategic reorientation was proposed. Just a farewell.

From Project ARC to a quiet exit. The game had a longer development period than many remember. Originally revealed in 2024 under the working title Project ARC, it was renamed PUBG: BLINDSPOT in 2025 before finally entering early access in February. The concept was truly intriguing: a top-down tactical shooter influenced by Rainbow Six: Siege, with extraction mechanics reminiscent of Escape from Tarkov and the compact, intense aspect of Door Kickers (2014). It was a real departure from the battle royale formula that made PUBG famous.

According to KRAFTON’s early access launch announcement, the game was positioned as a bold new direction for the franchise. The ambition was there. The execution, at least in terms of retaining a player base, clearly was not.

The numbers speak volumes. At launch, BLINDSPOT peaked at 3,251 simultaneous players during its first weekend. This is not a massive figure for a free-to-play title backed by the PUBG brand, but it was enough to suggest genuine interest. What happened next was the real issue.

The player count dropped rapidly and continued to decline. At the time of the closure announcement, SteamDB recorded only 148 active simultaneous players in the game. For reference, this is the kind of number that makes matchmaking almost impossible in a strictly multiplayer title.

The game’s Reddit community had already anticipated this outcome. Posts from a month before the closure pointed to the dwindling player numbers as a death knell. Widespread cheating reports and persistent performance issues worsened the situation, hastening the exodus of the remaining player base.

ARC Team’s statement at the time of bidding farewell. The team’s complete statement is worth reading. They do not seek to divert attention or sugarcoat the situation. The team acknowledged that BLINDSPOT was “a bold attempt to explore new possibilities in the top-down tactical shooter space” and thanked players for their feedback, stating that they “will continue to inform our future development efforts.” The statement ends by noting that ARC Team will “take time to regroup” before returning with new experiences.

This wording is significant. The team is not dissolved, at least not officially. It remains to be seen if this will translate into a future project or if it is simply an elegant way to close the door, but it is a softer exit than many other studios.

Difficult period for experimental PUBG projects. In hindsight, BLINDSPOT illustrates a familiar pattern in live-service games: a well-funded studio tries a truly different approach, the audience does not show up in sufficient numbers, and the economic model becomes unsustainable within weeks. The PUBG brand enjoys massive recognition, but it is almost entirely tied to the original battle royale experience. Translating this goodwill into a completely different genre is more challenging than it seems.

The speed of this closure, in less than 55 days between launch and shutdown, makes it one of the fastest early access exits on record. It is a tough outcome for players who invested time in the game, and even more so for the developers who spent years building it, from the concept of Project ARC.
