A new trend in literary entertainment is emerging as the Lyon-based publishing house, with “Club”, introduces a paper version of a literary serial. With new episodes every 15 days, instead of on a digital platform, the story arrives in the mailbox. This old but familiar concept of releasing novels in installments is reminiscent of the 19th century practices of Alexandre Dumas and Charles Dickens.
Following a similar model, “Club” offers a serial novel in six episodes, each one delivered over the course of weeks. The focus is on short, illustrated formats designed to be easily accessible, creating an immersive and addictive story. “It’s a modern paper-based series,” explains Astrid Faure, founder of En Cavale.
In contrast to the instant gratification of screens, “Club” aims to recreate the anticipation and slow pace of waiting. By releasing episodes gradually, the hope is to engage readers and build suspense, drawing inspiration from the cliffhanger technique commonly seen in TV shows and movies.
This isn’t En Cavale’s first foray into serial novels as they gained recognition with their mail-based detective stories for children. However, as the demand for slower, disconnecting activities rises, there is a growing interest from adults.
With “Club”, the aim is to offer adults a gateway to reading, providing a sixty-page novel to enjoy while waiting for the next part of the story. The experience is designed to be more than just reading a book; it’s about receiving a thoughtful, European-made collection that combines storytelling and craftsmanship.
The first installment, titled “Les Muses Malterre”, created by Blandine de Lestrange and Margaux Bruineaud, promises to be a captivating detective series that encourages readers to savor the story over time.
Context: “Club” is a unique literary concept that brings back the old tradition of serializing novels in print form, providing a novel experience for readers.
Fact Check: “Club” offers a serialized novel in six episodes, delivered every two weeks, in an effort to recreate anticipation and engagement for readers, leading them through a captivating and immersive narrative.
