Based on his childhood memories on the family farm in northern Périgord, Patric La Vau invites the public to a sensitive discovery of the Occitan language and culture of yesterday and today. Through his encounters with touching and warm characters, he transmits his love of language and guides spectators along the paths of oral tradition, popular culture, toponymy, storytelling or even literary creation and teaching.
This screening is part of “Lo mès de la lenga” (language month). Throughout the month of April, local players in the Occitan culture and language of South Gironde are offering a program of events which will put the language in the spotlight, as a prelude to La Passem.
A first in South-Gironde
“La Passem Gasconha!” is a race that has been held every two years since 2018 across the territory of Gascony (Béarn, Bigorre, Comminges, Couserans, Gers, Lot-et-Garonne, Landes, Bas-Adour) and, for the first time, in South Gironde. This major 2,000 kilometer relay will be run, non-stop, from April 30 to May 9, with the aim of raising funds which will then be donated to projects working for the transmission and promotion of Occitan Gascon.
During the race, a witness, “the ligam”, symbolizing the language, is passed from hand to hand at each kilometer. It contains a message kept secret until arrival.
Around the event, many popular events will be held in the communes of South-Gironde: Sauviac, Bazas, Brouqueyran, Saint-Pierre-d’Aurillac, Langon, Préchac, Bernos-Beaulac, Captieux…
