Meet DJ Djel, legendary member of the Fonky Family, in our Maritima studios, between the heritage of Marseille rap and the exclusive details of the 3rd Fonky Festival in Mars. DJ Djel is back home. A leading figure in Marseille rap and one of the residents of the Maritima Mix Party every Friday evening on our airwaves, DJ Djel stopped off at the Maritima studios to present the third edition of the Fonky Festival. Scheduled for April 24 and 25 at the Cabaret Aléatoire, in the heart of the Friche de la Belle de Mai, the event promises to be the unmissable gathering of Marseille urban culture.

A pioneer in the service of transmission
Founding member of the legendary Fonky Family, DJ Djel has never stopped making Marseille vibrate. For this new edition of the festival, he is banking on a mix of genres and eras. The poster, signed Cloë Saint-Jours, AI artist, shows a golden “Good Mother” carrying a ghetto-blaster, a strong symbol of the union between heritage and the street.
“For me Notre-Dame de la Garde, she is the mother of Marseille, our protector, she had to be on this poster. Seeing her with a ghetto-blaster is just incredible. — DJ Djel.

The Fonky Festival de Mars: an intergenerational meeting
The festival doesn’t just look to the past. It offers a true synthesis of what is best in the 13, bringing together rappers from 13 to 73 years old. This year, the godfather is none other than Soprano, proving once again the solidarity that reigns within the Marseille scene.
“Rap today is super popular music, it’s even the first popular music, it’s important to popularize it even more and get away from clichés. — DJ Djel.
The objective is clear: to allow the public to come together around a common passion. The idea is to be able to come with your parents to discover new talents like Missane or Isadora, while finding pillars like Sat the Artificer, Shurik’n or Faf Larage.
Â
Battles, Graffiti and Skateboarding: the essence of Hip-Hop
For two days, the Friche de la Belle de Mai will be transformed into a real village of urban culture. On the program: concerts of course, but also a beatmaking battle (musical production) and a dance battle. Snowboarding enthusiasts will not be left out with a “Skate Punk” event organized on the esplanade.
“It is this spirit of mixing generations that we are looking for. You can come with your dad or your mom and help them discover the new Marseille scene. — DJ Djel.
Without subsidies or sponsors, the festival grows each year, attracting an audience from all over France, and even from Greece or Spain. A national influence which confirms that Marseille remains the undisputed capital of rap and hip hop culture.
