Isabelle Huppert: “Promoting French culture has become a combat sport”

Isabelle Huppert knows the Cannes Film Festival like the back of her hand. She appeared in 30 films in the official selection, including 22 in competition. She won two prizes for female performance and chaired the jury in 2009. The actress, as comfortable in auteur cinema as in comedies, returns to the Croisette in Parallel Storiesthe latest feature film by Iranian director Asghar Farhadi, in the running for the Palme d’Or.

Thirteen years later Le Passéthe director is making a new film in France. Isabelle Huppert plays Sylvie, a writer observing her neighbors through a telescope from her apartment. She welcomes Adam (Adam Bessa), a man who helps her prepare for her move. Through a curious contagion effect and without her being aware of it, she transmits to him both her passion for writing and her taste for voyeurism.
