
There are plenty of good reasons to ask for a refund from something bought in the Fortnite cash shop, but one of them being because players don’t want to own a cosmetic associated with a celebrity charged with murder seems pretty cut-and-dried to us. Luckily, Epic Games feels the same way.
The cosmetics in question, the Feel It and Trophy Drop emotes, as well as the What Are You Waiting For and Locked and Loaded jam tracks, are associated with 21-year-old singer D4vd, aka David Anthony Burke, who stands accused of murdering 14-year-old girl Celeste Rivas Hernandez.
Epic confirmed that refund requests were being processed via the game’s support, and further confirmed that by Tuesday, April 28th, players who bought these cosmetics will be able to automatically get a self-service refund without having to go through support, along with the promise of other changes later. “We hear the concerns,†the tweet reads.
Whether this is a good enough stopgap solution or not depends on who you ask, as some replies to the tweet suggest that the cosmetics should just be immediately removed and refunds should be handed out to everyone, while others are asking if there is a way to remove the items from their accounts if they earned them through gameplay. Epic has yet to respond to those requests, but at the absolute very least, refunds can be granted without question.
