Nearly a decade after redefining the battle royale genre, PUBG is celebrating its ninth anniversary with update 40.2. On the program for these festivities: new events on Rondo, major adjustments for Vikendi and an exclusive musical collaboration with ALLDAY PROJECT.

On March 23, 2017, an early access title appeared on Steam and was poised to shake up the video game industry. Nine years have passed since the launch of PUBG, a game that not only popularized battle royale, but also brought together more than three million simultaneous players. To celebrate its ninth anniversary, Krafton is deploying update 40.2, a true declaration of love to its global community.

Grandiose festivities on the battlefields

The departure island is transformed for the occasion. The developers have integrated an imposing commemorative statue with which survivors can interact before jumping from the plane. By making nine precise throws with holographic stun grenades, this structure will take the appearance of your own avatar. A personalized touch that sets the tone for this festive event.

The celebrations take on a particular scale on the Rondo map. The battlefield is adorned with pop-up shops and billboards celebrating the anniversary. The most attentive players will perhaps have the chance to come across the Chicken Mana special character distributing lucky eggs. These contain valuable loot, ranging from level three equipment to fearsome weapons, not forgetting an exclusive camouflage outfit specially designed for this ninth year.

To accompany these new features, Krafton offers a new event pass offering numerous missions. Participants will be able to unlock themed cosmetic items, festive emotes and virtual currency to enrich their collection. Commemorative drone shows also light up the skies of the different maps.

Tactical adjustments to Vikendi and Arcade modes

Besides the celebrations, update 40.2 brings its share of structural improvements. The snowy Vikendi map gets special attention. Secret rooms see their arsenal expand with the addition of additional tactical equipment, thus modifying approach strategies. In addition, some previously locked doors have been replaced by standard access, streamlining progression and accessibility during intense clashes.

Arcade modes are not left out. Team Deathmatch now includes card selection probabilities based on community preferences. The intense battle royale mode also receives an update to its supply crates, further boosting the pace of combat. On PC, content creators benefit from a new feature allowing them to better detail their custom modes.

An explosive musical collaboration

To crown this anniversary, Krafton has teamed up with international artist ALLDAY PROJECT. Together, they unveil a new title called “ I DONT BARGAIN ». This exclusive track perfectly transcribes the competitive spirit and survival instinct that have driven players since the beginning of the game.

The famous level three helmet, a true emblem of the franchise, is filled with congratulatory messages sent by enthusiasts from all over the world. A nice way to remind you that, nine years later, community remains the beating heart of the ultimate survival experience.

Already available on PC, update 40.2 will be deployed on March 19 on consoles.
