The University of Guelph has achieved global recognition by ranking in a record 15 subjects in the 2026 QS World University Rankings by Subject. Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) secured the top position in Canada and climbed to fourth place globally in veterinary science. The agriculture and forestry programs at U of G also excelled, ranking first in Canada and 14th globally. The Ontario Agricultural College (OAC) is known for its strength in food and agricultural science research, attracting students worldwide.
Furthermore, both OAC and OVC were ranked first in Canada for academic and employer reputation, as well as top five in the country for research citations. The Hospitality and Tourism Management program at the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics ranked second in Canada. The University expanded its global ranking to 15 subjects, almost doubling since 2021. New programs in business and management studies, geophysics, and development studies were introduced, highlighting the University’s commitment to innovation.
In environmental sciences, U of G ranked seventh in Canada and among the top 200 globally. Anatomy and physiology, along with biological sciences, were placed 10th in Canada, providing unique experiential learning opportunities. Dr. Rene Van Acker, the president and vice-chancellor, emphasized the significance of these rankings for students and the wider community. The Quacquarelli Symonds Rankings recognized U of G as a top Canadian university, known for its exceptional teaching and research. QS assessed over 18,300 university programs globally, reinforcing U of G’s position as a leading institution worldwide.
