For those who were upset about not being able to attend the Coachella festival, take comfort: the conditions there were far from ideal for festival-goers. Literally, as a storm brought industrial quantities of sand to the participants of the famous festival in Indio, California, throughout the weekend.
The participants of Coachella 2026 were not only stirred up by the crazy music lineup, the return of Justin Bieber to the stage after several years of absence, or the price of a chicken sandwich ($30), a slice of pizza ($20), or a beer ($15).
They were also (and primarily) shaken by the extraordinary weather conditions that heavily disrupted one of the most famous festivals on the planet throughout the weekend.
The issues began on Friday when windy conditions (though not unusual for the event) led to the cancellation of the highly anticipated DJ EDM Anyma concert just before midnight on the festival’s main stage.
Due to this unfortunate weather, tents and awnings were overturned in the camping area. After a lull on Saturday, which allowed artists to perform smoothly, a highly exclusive camp was turned upside down by gusts on Sunday.
Known for its high-end “adult summer camp” atmosphere – including a pool, VIP bars, boutiques, Pilates reformer classes, and makeup workshops, the Camp Poosh was hit hard by the winds, turning the carefully groomed oasis into a dusty desert.
However, showcasing a sense of humor, some influencers made light of their misfortunes. “If you’re experiencing FOMO…” posted content creator Laura Lee on her social media.
And it was not just a few grains of sand in the eyes and overturned tents that would make us pity the festival attendees who gather each year the creme de la creme of pop and celebrities.
Especially since these conditions were nothing compared to the much more harsh ones faced by Burning Man festival-goers in 2023, which trapped tens of thousands of people in mud and led to a fatality.
