In brief Benedict Cumberbatch, actor from Sherlock, was involved in a heated altercation with a cyclist in London after running several red lights. The scene, filmed near King’s Cross, shows the actor denying some facts and accusing the other cyclist of insulting him. Several passersby witnessed the incident, which has sparked surprise and reactions on social media.
Unusual scene in the streets of London on Tuesday, May 5th. Around 5:30 pm, near the very central King’s Cross station, a heated altercation broke out between two cyclists. Except that one of them was none other than Benedict Cumberbatch.
As reported by The Sun on Sunday, the British actor, famous for his portrayal of the famous detective in the series Sherlock, was confronted by an anonymous cyclist for a good ten minutes.
It was a passerby who recounted the scene to the British media. He claims to have seen, just before the dispute between the two men erupted, the actor’s cargo bike running a red light on a bike path. A cyclist right behind him then pursued him before saying, “I knew you were going to do that.”
Thanks to this witness who filmed part of the scene, we can then hear the cyclist confronting Benedict Cumberbatch: “You’re wrong! You’re lying! I was behind you all the time!” Apparently, the actor actually ran several red lights in a row, then denied doing so to this man.
Benedict Cumberbatch even removed his helmet to go confront the man who was questioning him. The actor defends himself by accusing the cyclist of insulting him.
Sarcastically, the other cyclist reacts with a sarcastic gesture, saying, “Oh no, I insulted the guy who broke the law several times!” Benedict Cumberbatch admits, “I did it once.” But the accuser doesn’t let up: “And then you ran a pedestrian crossing, you ran three red lights!” “No, not at all,” the actor retorts.
All this under the gaze of several bewildered onlookers, as can be seen in the footage.
“It was crazy! Such a scene of anger on a bike, so pretentious, it looked like a play. Despite his outburst, Benedict managed to charm all the spectators,” said the one who filmed the scene to The Sun.
