Celebrities are increasingly becoming the preferred targets of home invasions that occur in the presence of the occupants of a house or apartment. On Monday, May 11, comedian Michaël Youn fell victim to this. Should stars be more discreet about their private lives to avoid becoming victims?

Could robbing celebrities be a growing fascination for criminals? This may be the case for the two masked men who entered the residence of actor Michaël Youn and his partner Isabelle Funaro on Monday, May 11, near Aix-en-Provence. The two burglars entered the house at 8 am, one of them holding a gun, and left with a substantial loot: jewelry and money. The couple’s children were present at the time, but no one was physically harmed, according to ICI Provence.

Before the French actor, many personalities have been victims of home invasions. In June 2025, TV presenter Christophe Beaugrand was targeted. Two years before, radio host Bruno Guillon experienced a trauma when five people aged 19 to 35 barged into his home in the middle of the night. Even athletes are not spared from this phenomenon. The house of former PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was burglarized one night in July 2023, resulting in a loss estimated at 500,000 euros, as reported by Lequipe.

Celebrity victims of their own success

One of the most notorious home invasions, perhaps the one that launched this terrible trend, especially in the French capital, is the one in the hotel room where Kim Kardashian stayed. During Paris Fashion Week in 2016, the “papy robbers” left with nine million euros in loot during a ten-minute robbery. The American star was kidnapped by the criminals during the night.

While all these cited celebrities obviously do not share the same level of privacy, especially on social media, they all remain public figures. In the collective imagination, and probably with good reason, they are then all suspected of earning a good living and, thus, owning jewelry, watches, or any other fortune that may interest thieves. And if these celebrities share their active lives in videos, with busy evenings, criminals might even think it’s easy to burglarize a house in the absence of its occupants!
