Here is a piece of news that will delight fans of Games of Thrones. Seven years after the end of the series, inspired by George R. R. Martin’s literary work (which is still unfinished), a film is currently in preparation at Warner Bros. And for now, not much is known about this project except for its provisional title: The Conquest of Aegon, as Warner Bros. announced at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. The screenwriter is also hard at work: Beau Willimon, known for films like The Ides of March (starring George Clooney and Ryan Gosling) and Mary Queen of Scots (starring Margot Robbie and Saoirse Ronan), as well as the creator and writer of the series House of Cards and writer for several episodes of Andor (one of the Star Wars universe spin-off series).

Games of Thrones: who will be at the heart of the film in preparation? The film is said to focus on Aegon I, the first lord of the Seven Kingdoms, founder of the Targaryen dynasty – the royal family at the core of the whole saga. This would be the first time Aegon I appears on screen. It is too early to know the names of the actors and actresses who will join this project. The director of the film is also a mystery. As for the release date, it is still unclear, but it will be “after 2027.”

Created by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, Games of Thrones has been, and remains, a true cultural phenomenon. The end of the series in 2019, after eight particularly intense, thrilling, and bloody seasons (and a finale that left many shocked), did not mark the end of the adventure. On the contrary, the “franchise” has continued to exist through two derivative series that still delight HBO viewers.

Game of Thrones: when there are no more… Aired since 2022, House of Dragon (set 200 years before Game of Thrones) already has two seasons, with the third arriving in June 2026, and a fourth – the last one – already planned. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (set approximately 90 years before Game of Thrones), quietly arrived in January 2026 and has been renewed for a second season at least.
