The Ligue 1 match between PSG and OL on Sunday evening will be played without Lyon supporters at the Parc des Princes. The decision was made by the Ministry of the Interior.
On Sunday, for the final game of the 30th round of Ligue 1, the Parc des Princes will host a great match between PSG and OL (kick-off at 8:45 pm). However, this exciting football event will be overshadowed by the ban on Lyon supporters traveling to the capital. “Anyone claiming to be a supporter of Olympique Lyonnais or acting as such” will not be allowed to travel from the Rhône department to Île-de-France on the day of the match, following a decree from the Ministry of the Interior published in the Official Journal on Friday.
The “violent behavior of some supporters” and the risks of “injuries or damage” have raised concerns. After noting that the relationship between the two clubs “has been marked by animosity for many years,” the ministry justified its decision with past events. In 2024, on the sidelines of the Coupe de France final between PSG and OL, violent clashes broke out at a highway rest area. Additionally, several more recent incidents involving Lyon supporters also played a role.
“Sharp objects on vehicles transporting Lyon supporters”
Before the first leg of the Europa League round of 16 against the Spanish team Celta de Vigo, several minor injuries were reported due to confrontations. Earlier in January, “sharp objects as well as combat sports protection gear were found on vehicles transporting Lyon supporters” ahead of the regular phase match against the Swiss team Young Boys de Berne.
On a purely sporting level, PSG led by Ousmane Dembélé is at the top of Ligue 1 and could move closer to a fifth consecutive French championship title by winning. As for the Gones, in 5th place, they got back on track last Sunday by beating Lorient 2-0 at the Groupama Stadium.
