Sebastian Vettel has warned Formula 1 leaders that the sport must not “lose its DNA and soul”. The German said he “shares some criticisms from a sporting point of view.”

When a four-time Formula 1 world champion speaks, it’s better to listen. This applies to both Max Verstappen and Sebastian Vettel! Interviewed by the Swedish media SVT about the content of the 2026 regulations for the top category of motor racing, the German said, “I hear and share some criticisms from a sporting point of view.”

“The cars are probably enjoyable to drive, but it’s not very fun to race due to the regulations and the resulting difficulties,” said the former Red Bull champion, with whom he won his four world titles between 2010 and 2013. “So I understand the drivers. And it is essential not to lose the essence and soul of this sport, which are about finding the fastest driver and the fastest car to win the race.”

SVT also asked Vettel for his opinion on the changes made by the authorities regarding race conditions, qualifications, and starts. “I hope this will make the drivers happier because ultimately, they are the face of the discipline. If they get out of their cars full of adrenaline and very enthusiastic, that’s what excites the viewers in front of their screens and in the stands as well,” warned the German, recently awarded the title of “Knight of the Environment” by a Swedish school for his numerous environmental battles, particularly on the circuits.
