The return to the roots of football

The first leg of the Champions League semi-final between Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich left a lasting impression with its intensity and irrational scenario, ending in a 5-4 score. Far from the usual debates about football business, this confrontation recalled the spectacular essence of the game, characterized by total offensive freedom at the expense of defensive rigor, offering spectators a rich and emotional clash.

It was an incredible match where we went back to the essence of football, meaning emotions. These are the kind of games you see when kids are playing on a football field or in a sandbox. We truly returned to football in its simplest form, meaning: to win you have to score the most goals, and we forget a little bit about defending.

After the match, both coaches Luis Enrique and Vincent Kompany crossed paths with smiles on their faces, also captivated by the spectacle.

Enthusiasm in the German press

In Germany, the sports press described this match as a “monumental gala” and “pure poetry”, highlighting the frantic pace set by both teams. For the German daily Bild, it was simply “the greatest show in the history of the Champions League, a match to savor, to rub your eyes,” with the press truly astonished by the unbridled pace, maximum intensity of the match, no hesitation, no tactics, just the joy of playing.

The Bavarian media, although shocked by their team’s defensive frailty, unanimously praised the performance of the Parisians, especially the efficiency of their attackers and the tactical transformation carried out by coach Luis Enrique.

Everyone is looking ahead to the second leg, scheduled for Wednesday, May 6th, in Munich, described as “the fight of the century.” From the perspective of German supporters, they remain confident in their team’s qualification.
