The extension of the truce between Iran and the United States was set to end in theory on Tuesday night, Wednesday, Tehran time. A new round of talks is planned in Islamabad, Pakistan, between Iran and the United States.
The ceasefire between the United States and Iran ends “Wednesday evening, Washington time,” said U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday, April 20 to Bloomberg, as reported by CNN. If American demands are not met by then, “many bombs will explode,” added the American president, this time on PBS, after earlier threatening to annihilate “an entire civilization.”
Donald Trump also stated on his Truth Social network that he would only lift the American blockade on Iranian ports in the event of a “deal” with Iran.
“In that same post, Donald Trump assured that he is ‘winning a war, by far!’ ‘They’re losing $500 million a day, an unsustainable figure for them, even in the short term,’ he added.”
A new round of talks planned in Islamabad
While the United States announced a new round of talks in Islamabad, Pakistan, Iran indicates that there is “no clear prospect of successful negotiations” from their side.
Tehran has not yet made “project for the next negotiating cycle at this stage, and no decision has been made on this subject,” said Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esma’il Bagha’i, questioning “the seriousness of the United States in the diplomatic process.”
He added that the seizure of an Iranian cargo ship by the United States in the Gulf of Oman, their naval blockade of Iranian ports, and delays in implementing the ceasefire in Lebanon are all “obvious violations of the ceasefire.”
According to several Iranian media outlets, a lifting of the American naval blockade would be a prerequisite for discussions with Washington.
