Betty Huffman-Rosevear, a nurse in the American army during World War II, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at the age of 104. Thanks to the Best Defense Foundation, which has been organizing the return of American veterans to Normandy for several years, Betty Huffman-Rosevear was able to attend the D-Day commemorations, including the joint French and American ceremonies held at the American military cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer. La Renaissance le Bessin followed her, along with about thirty US veterans present on the occasion, during the 78th anniversary of D-Day.

Engaged in 1944 after the death of her husband in combat, Betty Huffman-Rosevear volunteered within the American army’s nursing corps during World War II, providing valuable assistance to soldiers. She was one of the last witnesses of this decisive period in our history, lamented Calvados prefect Stéphane Bredin in a Facebook post.

Born in Canada, she enlisted in 1944 after her husband was killed in battle. She chose to serve as a nurse in the American army, helping soldiers during World War II. She was part of the last witnesses of this critical period in our history, regretted Calvados prefect Stéphane Bredin in a post published on Facebook.
