Ormuz: US Army Orders 31 Ships to Turn Back
The US military command for the Middle East (Centcom) has stated that American forces have “ordered 31 ships to turn back or return to their port as part of the American blockade against Iran.” “The majority of the ships are in compliance with American instructions,” Centcom further wrote, adding that “most of the ships that turned back were tankers.” Oil prices jumped more than 4% at the start of trading in Asia before moderating, in a market concerned about uncertainties in the talks between Iran and the United States as the paralysis of the Strait of Hormuz continues.
Renault: Increased Revenue in the First Quarter
Renault announced Thursday morning that it recorded a 7.3% increase in revenue in the first quarter of 2026, driven mainly by the success of electric models and the accounting integration of a subsidiary in India, despite a sharp drop in sales volume for Dacia. Mainly produced in Morocco, the brand’s cars experienced a significant slowdown in deliveries in January and February due to violent storms that blocked maritime traffic in the Strait of Gibraltar, leading to a 16.3% drop in Dacia sales for the quarter, the group explained.
Lebanon to Seek Extension of Truce in Talks with Israel in Washington
Israel and Lebanon are holding a new round of ambassador-level talks in Washington today under the auspices of the United States, during which Beirut wants to request a one-month extension of the truce in effect since April 17. Israel stated before these discussions that it does not have any “serious disagreements” with Lebanon, calling for them to “work together” against the pro-Iranian Hezbollah, which is notably absent from these talks as it opposes them. The two countries, still in a state of war, held a meeting on April 14 in Washington, the first of its kind since 1993, in an effort to end the war sparked by Hezbollah firing on Israel on March 2.
