The Iranian army warned on Tuesday in a statement that it will “open new fronts” if the United States resume their attacks on Iran, which have been suspended since the ceasefire came into effect on April 8.
“If the enemy commits the foolishness of falling into the trap of the Zionists and launching a new aggression against our beloved Iran, we will open new fronts against them,” said army spokesperson Mohammad Akraminia, as cited by the Iranian news agency Isna.
On Monday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he had canceled a new attack on Iran at the last minute, which he said was supposed to take place on Tuesday, while also stating that there were “very good chances” of reaching an agreement with Tehran.
Since the ceasefire came into effect on April 8, after nearly 40 days of strikes, negotiations have been ongoing to try to reach an agreement. However, the positions of both parties remain far apart, especially regarding the nuclear issue.
Only one session of discussions between American and Iranian representatives took place on April 11 in Islamabad, ending in failure.
On Monday morning, the Iranian diplomacy responded to a new U.S. proposal aimed at resolving the diplomatic deadlock and ending the war in the Middle East permanently.
They reiterated their demands, particularly calling for the unblocking of Iranian assets frozen abroad and the lifting of international sanctions that are suffocating their economy.
