New, more readable street signs have been installed in the business district since January 19, with a gradual deployment planned until the end of April. In total, around 450 elements have been replaced or complemented by the existing system.
Carried out by Paris La Défense, this operation aims to make the signage of the public space “more readable”. The new signs indicating the names of places, now larger and more visible, have been designed to facilitate the movement of users, whether they are employees, residents, students, or visitors, according to the public establishment.
This update responds to a need identified for several years, explains Paris La Défense. The first plates had been installed between 2010 and 2011 and no longer fully reflected the evolutions of the district, particularly the appearance of new places and the modification of certain landmarks. Some places or addresses were also no longer properly marked.
Paris La Défense indicates that this new signage is part of “a coherent approach” with other pedestrian plans and supports updated between 2020 and 2021 in the territory. The color codes have also been harmonized to enhance the visual unity of the district.
At the same time, road signs are also being installed, especially on Boulevard Patrick Devedjian, to better guide motorists to the hotels in the area. Several establishments have changed names or recently opened, requiring an update of the indications. In total, this new system includes fifteen signposted hotels, forty-three equipped intersections, around sixty buildings, and almost two hundred new plates installed.
The establishment specifies that this evolution follows the feedback from users, who highlighted the difficulties of orientation in a dense and complex area. According to the survey conducted by Viavoice in 2024, more than eight out of ten users are satisfied with the pedestrian signage, a level that has been increasing in recent years.
