The general conference of ambassadors and consuls general provides an opportunity to evaluate Senegal’s diplomatic action and engage in constructive dialogue on the country’s foreign policy directions, emphasized the President of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, on Saturday in Diamniadio.

‘This meeting provides the opportunity to gather the diplomatic and consular family of our country, to assess with lucidity the state of our foreign action, but also to engage in constructive dialogue with you and to provide guidelines to guide our foreign policy,’ he said.

He chaired the 7th conference of ambassadors and consuls general of Senegal on the theme ‘Senegalese diplomacy and the renewal of international cooperation: principles and modes of action,’ held at the Abdou Diouf International Conference Center in Diamniadio (CICAD).

Many diplomats established in Senegal and abroad, the Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko, government members including the Minister of African Integration, Foreign Affairs, and Senegalese people abroad participated in the event.

‘This meeting constitutes, in many ways, a privileged moment in our institutional life,’ commented the President of the Republic, expressing his real pleasure in presiding for the first time over the general conference of ambassadors, consuls general, and consuls of Senegal.

He emphasized that Senegal had recently reached a major milestone in its political history with the advent of the third democratic alternation, which, he said, occurred ‘in a context marked by a severe crisis that, at one point, tested national stability.’

‘This situation, far from weakening our state, on the contrary, strengthened the vitality of our institutions and the resilience of our democracy. Senegal prides itself on an ancient, active, deeply rooted diplomatic tradition in Africa and resolutely open to the world,’ observed Bassirou Diomaye Faye.

He thus committed to continue and amplify this dynamic aimed at implementing the country’s transformative vision.

‘It is in this spirit that, since taking office, I have chosen to entrust diplomacy to professionals, whose expertise and dedication have decisively contributed, over the decades, to the international influence of Senegal,’ he indicated.

He urged Senegalese diplomats to fully engage in this tradition of excellence, inherited from their predecessors whose commitment to the service of the state and the nation remains a source of inspiration.
