On April 24 in New York City (United States), Ambassador Do Hung Viet, head of the Vietnam’s permanent mission to the United Nations, chaired a meeting to inform American friends about the results of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the first session of the 16th National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
According to VNA correspondent in New York, Ambassador Do Hung Viet, speaking at the event, emphasized the importance of these two events, which are strategically important for Vietnam’s development in this new phase.
In particular, the 14th Party Congress defined guidelines and solutions to achieve the “two centenary goals,” identifying three strategic breakthroughs in institutions, high-quality human resources related to science, technology, and innovation, as well as modern and synchronous infrastructure.
Regarding foreign policy, Ambassador Do Hung Viet affirmed that the 14th National Congress continued to consistently uphold an independent, autonomous, peaceful, friendly, cooperative, and development-oriented foreign policy; to diversify and multilateralize external relations; and to proactively and comprehensively integrate into the international community.
The head of the Vietnamese delegation highlighted that people-to-people diplomacy is increasingly becoming an important pillar of Vietnamese diplomacy, creating a favorable basis for cooperation between Vietnam and other countries, especially the United States.
Regarding the first session of the 16th National Assembly, Ambassador Do Hung Viet was pleased to announce that the session completed the comprehensive restructuring of the state leadership apparatus and institutional framework for the new term; elected leadership positions of the state, National Assembly, government, and judicial bodies; and reviewed and approved many important legal frameworks and mid-term development plans for the period 2026-2030.
In a sincere, open, and constructive exchange, many American friends congratulated Vietnam on the success of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the first session of the 16th National Assembly, expressing keen interest in Vietnam’s development orientation and advances in this new period.
Some delegates wanted to learn more about Vietnam’s key policies, including transforming its growth model, labor policies, social housing, efforts to address the consequences of Agent Orange/dioxin, solutions to address the impact of the Middle East conflict and rising oil prices, as well as Vietnam’s position on the Palestinian issue.
On this occasion, Ambassador Do Hung Viet respectfully thanked American friends for their attention, support, and kind sentiments towards Vietnam over the years, as well as for the congratulatory messages sent to the new Vietnamese leaders.
The Ambassador affirmed that this eloquently demonstrates the effectiveness of people-to-people diplomacy, as well as the growing development of friendly relations and cooperation between Vietnam and its international friends, particularly with American friends. He expressed hope to continue benefiting from the support, attention, and cooperation of American friends on Vietnam’s new development path, for peace, stability, cooperation, and development.
