Niamey, May 9th (ANP) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Nigeriens Abroad, Bakary Yaou Sangaré, stated on Saturday, May 9, 2026, that Niger is continuing to strengthen its diplomacy through the appointment of new ambassadors, intensifying diplomatic exchanges, and placing Nigeriens in international organizations.
In an interview with national television, the minister noted that out of the 43 diplomatic representations of Niger worldwide, 22 ambassadors have been replaced as part of the implementation of the country’s new diplomatic policy.
The minister also mentioned that Niger has received 29 letters of credence from newly accredited ambassadors while increasing diplomatic delegations at the international level.
The head of Niger’s diplomacy specified that Niger has sent 22 ministerial delegations abroad and received 34 in the last twelve months, indicating the country’s increasing visibility on the international stage.
Bakary Yaou Sangaré also affirmed that Niger’s diplomacy is now working to promote the image of a sovereign Niger, committed to defending its strategic interests, population, and diaspora.
Furthermore, the minister announced the reinforcement of the policy to place Nigeriens in international organizations, highlighting Niger’s presence in various African and UN bodies, as well as Nigerian candidacies for different international positions.
Finally, he announced that a Nigerien is soon to be appointed at the head of the Islamic University of Say, noting that this would be a first since the institution’s establishment.
