Present at the meeting were Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc, General Phan Van Giang, Vice Minister of Defense, Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung, Minister and Chief of the Government Office Dang Xuan Phong, as well as leaders from ministries, agencies, and organizations.
During the meeting, delegates focused on evaluating achievements, clarifying difficulties and obstacles to overcome, identifying causes, analyzing in-depth the global situation’s evolution, its impact on Vietnam, and issues in diplomatic sector development.
Discussions also covered tasks and key solutions for the Ministry and the diplomatic sector in the coming period, especially in implementing foreign policy missions according to central committee, politburo, and secretariat guidelines. They also discussed deepening bilateral and multilateral relations, diplomacy in service of development, and other aspects of foreign policy work.
The meeting also reviewed and addressed proposals and recommendations from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the government and Prime Minister regarding personnel, mechanisms, policies, and resources needed to establish a comprehensive and modern diplomatic system.
In his closing remarks, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung stated that the 14th National Congress had identified “strengthening external relations and international integration as a crucial and permanent task.” This strategic change indicates the Party’s high regard for the importance of foreign affairs and diplomacy.
Furthermore, after restructuring, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs aims to unify state management of foreign affairs within the political system, advise the Party and State on strategic orientation, and implement Party foreign policy, state diplomacy, and people-to-people diplomacy.
Recently, the global situation has evolved rapidly, becoming complex and unpredictable. These changes, whether minor or major, directly impact Vietnam through multifactorial and intersectoral transmission mechanisms, posing numerous challenges that demand proactive strategies, strategic foresight, and policy responses to address various possible scenarios.
“All of this places a very heavy burden on the ministry and the diplomatic sector, not only this year, but also in the years to come,” Prime Minister Le Minh Hung stated.
On behalf of the government, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung praised the efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in contributing to peace, stability, a favorable environment for national development, and friendly relations with other countries. He highlighted the role of the ministry in advising the Party and State on strategic direction, organizing the implementation of Party foreign policy, state diplomacy, and people-to-people diplomacy.
