At the meeting of the members of the Politburo were present: Pham Gia Tuc, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister; General Phan Van Giang, Vice Premier and Minister of National Defense; Le Hoai Trung, Minister of Foreign Affairs; and leaders of ministries and central agencies.
During the meeting, delegates focused on evaluating achievements, identifying difficulties and obstacles to overcome, understanding the causes, deeply analyzing the global situation, its impact on Vietnam, and issues in diplomatic sector development.
Discussions also revolved around tasks and solutions for the upcoming period for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including implementing foreign policy missions in line with central committee, Politburo, and Secretariat directions; deepening bilateral and multilateral relations, diplomacy for development, and other foreign policy aspects.
Additionally, the meeting reviewed and addressed proposals and recommendations from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the government and Prime Minister regarding personnel matters, mechanisms, policies, and necessary resources for establishing a comprehensive and modern diplomatic system.
Prime Minister Le Minh Hung stated that the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam identified “strengthening foreign relations and international integration as a crucial and ongoing task,” a significant strategic change demonstrating the importance placed on foreign affairs and diplomacy by the Party.
Furthermore, after restructuring its organization, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs aims to unify state management of foreign affairs within the political system; advise the Party and State on strategic orientation; and implement Party foreign policy, state diplomacy, and people-to-people diplomacy.
In conclusion, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung emphasized the need to build a strong and efficient Party organization, prioritize internal party building and political security, and timely address issues as they arise. Further, urgent revision and addition proposals are essential to ensure progress and quality in implementing policies and plans.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in conjunction with relevant ministries and agencies, is urgently revising and proposing amendments to the decree regarding the organization and functions of the ministry, establishing key performance indicators for performance evaluation, and managing focal points for foreign policy activities.
The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of accelerating the establishment of a comprehensive, modern, and professional diplomatic sector and proactive engagement of foreign representations to strengthen cooperation between Vietnam and other countries in key areas of importance.
Lastly, the Premier urged intensive research, consultation, evaluation, and forecasts on regional and global situations to provide timely information, advice, and policy recommendations. It is crucial to modernize diplomatic strategies based on technology, innovation, and digital transformation to ensure national security, defense, and development.
