SVG Lüneburg reaches German volleyball championship finals The men of SVG Lüneburg have once again reached the final series for the German volleyball championship. On Sunday, they won 3:1 (25:20, 26:24, 22:25, 27:25) against Powervolleys Düren and celebrated their second victory in the “Best of Three” series. The first game of the semifinal series was a clear 3:0 win at home for the round-robin winners. The opponent for SVG-Coach Stefan Hübner’s team in the final is yet to be determined.
Berlin Volleys, the defending champions, lost the second match to VfB Friedrichshafen with a score of 2:3 (25:16, 22:25, 25:21, 20:25, 12:15) after their 3:1 win in the classic against Friedrichshafen. The deciding game will be held in Berlin next Sunday.
Lüneburg secures a 2-0 set lead In Düren, Lüneburg easily won the first set 25:20 but faced tougher competition in the second set, narrowly winning 26:24. Düren came back strong in the third set with a 25:22 victory, taking the lead in the fourth set with 7:2. However, Lüneburg fought back, closed the gap, and secured a match point at 26:25 that was successfully converted by Axel Enlund. The 18-year-old Swede ended the game with a powerful serve, sealing the victory for SVG Lüneburg.
The Pokalsieger team now aims for its first championship in club history after losing to Berlin Volleys in the previous season.
Next challenge for SVG in Piacenza on Wednesday Following their success in Düren, SVG Lüneburg faces a tough challenge in the CEV Cup final rematch against Italian top club Piacenza on Wednesday at 8 pm. Despite the 0:3 loss at home, SVG still has a chance to salvage the series with a 3-0 or 3-1 win in the return leg. This marks SVG’s second appearance in the CEV Cup final after their defeat to Resovia Rzeszow in 2024.
