The Orange Fencing Club is hosting the 4th edition of the international wheelchair fencing tournament Guillaume d’Orange on May 16 and 17 at the Daudet space. “I agreed to take over the presidency of the club on the condition that the club turns towards handicapped sports and para-fencing,” says Brunon Albéro.

15 nationalities and 50 competitors

Thus, from 2022, he is organizing the French championship in wheelchair fencing for visually impaired at the Antique Theater. Such a success that when France was chosen to host an international event, it naturally turned to the club in the city of Princes. “This international event brings together 15 nationalities and 50 competitors who compete with two different weapons,” specifies the president. A logistical feat since the Daudet space is transformed into a true fencing room. “This involves 80 volunteers” between taking care of the competitors and providing them with meals.

A great image for the city

“Beyond the pride for the club, this event is also a great image for the city,” says Brunon Albéro. As for the budget, such an organization is subject to strict guidelines. “We have partners who, in exchange for visibility, directly contribute to the service and other activities related to disabilities,” concludes the president.
