The strikes continue. Three men aboard a ship accused by the United States government of being “involved in drug trafficking operations” were killed by an American strike on Sunday in the eastern Pacific, the army announced, bringing the death toll to 185 in this contested anti-drug campaign.
The targeted boat was “operated by designated terrorist organizations,” said the US military command for Latin America and the Caribbean (Southcom). “Intelligence services confirmed that the ship was traveling on routes known for drug trafficking,” he added, echoing the terms used to describe dozens of deadly operations since the beginning of the campaign last September.
American military officials have claimed at least eight such strikes in April, bringing the total number of people killed in these operations to at least 185, according to an AFP count.
The Donald Trump administration has never provided solid proof to assert that the targeted ships were actually involved in trafficking. Experts and UN officials have denounced extrajudicial executions.
