Legendary, the two-hour barrier was broken in the London marathon on Sunday, along with the women’s world record.

Two favorites who wore their boss costume in Liège-Bastogne-Liège, also witnessed the emergence of a French prodigy; PSG getting closer to the Ligue 1 title as the European race heats up; the women’s rugby team dreaming of the Six Nations: a very emotional sports weekend. But it will be remembered most for a record breaking event, perhaps even a double record: for the first time, two men ran a marathon in under two hours in London.

Liège-Bastogne-Liège: Pogacar and Vollering in charge

For once, a rider was able to follow Tadej Pogacar’s lightning attack. French prodigy Paul Seixas held on to the Slovenian world champion’s wheel in the Redoute climb, promising a future duel. However, Seixas cracked in the final ascent of Liège-Bastogne-Liège on April 26.

Distanced in the Roche-aux-Faucons climb, the Frenchman finished second behind Tadej Pogacar, the winner of the Doyenne for the fourth time (2021, 2024, 2025, 2026), his thirteenth Monument victory. In the women’s race, the favorite Demi Vollering won solo in Liège, securing her third triumph and becoming the most crowned woman in the Doyenne following her victories in 2021 and 2023.

Marathon: Sabastian Sawe first man under 2 hours

Historical day in London. During the marathon in the streets of the British capital, Sabastian Sawe wrote one of the most prestigious pages in the history of athletics. The Kenyan became the first man to run the marathon in under two hours on April 17, in an event where his two pursuers also broke the previous world record. Prior to this, only Kenyan Eliud Kipchoge had run a marathon in under two hours, in 2019 in Vienna (1h59’41”), though it was an exhibition event where he was aided by 41 pacemakers, disallowing it as an official record.

At London, Sabastian Sawe won in 1 hour, 59 minutes and 30 seconds, over a minute faster than Kelvin Kiptum’s previous reference mark. Second was Ethiopian Yomif Kejelcha with 1h59’41”, followed by Ugandan Jacob Kiplimo (2 hours and 28 seconds). In the women’s category, Ethiopian Tigst Assefa also set a new record by winning in 2 hours, 15 minutes and 41 seconds.

Six Nations: French women continue their flawless run

Another victory for the French women’s team in the Six Nations Championship. After beating Italy and Wales, the French defeated Ireland (26-7) in Clermont-Ferrand. The French team had a slow start but dominated the second half, securing a bonus point victory.

Ligue 1: PSG almost champion, Lyon on the podium

Paris Saint-Germain extended their lead in Ligue 1 with a strong 3-0 win over Angers, while Lyon climbed to third place with a 3-2 victory over Auxerre. Monaco and Marseille fell behind due to drawn and lost matches respectively.

Champions League: Lyon in unfavorable position

The Lyonnesse were defeated 2-1 by Arsenal in the Champions League semifinal first leg, putting them in a tough spot ahead of the second leg at Groupama stadium. Bayern Munich drew against FC Barcelona in the other semifinal.
