The President of the National Assembly, Tran Thanh Man, praised and congratulated the Commission on National Defense, Security, and Foreign Affairs for its remarkable achievements during the 15th legislature and the first half of 2026. However, he candidly pointed out some limitations, including the superficial and ineffective nature of certain actions in foreign policy, and the lack of rigor in information exchange, task allocation, and problem management mechanisms in their implementation.
Regarding the priority tasks for the remaining months of 2026, the President of the National Assembly urged the Commission to continue its innovative efforts in legislation. In this regard, the Commission must develop a precise plan for the implementation of the resolution of the Party’s 14th National Congress and resolution No. 59-NQ/TW of the Politburo on international integration; the implementation of the Politburo’s conclusion No. 17-KL/TW on legislative orientation for the 16th legislature; and actively participate in the thorough revision of legislative texts, fully integrating elements related to national defense, security, and foreign affairs into the bills.
The President of the National Assembly asked the Commission to urgently coordinate preparations for the inclusion of the following bills in the 2026-2027 legislative program: the Data Security Law, the Prevention and Control of the Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction Law, the ordinance on the repair of the consequences of bombings and mines after the war, and the revised International Agreements Law. The Commission should also ensure regular follow-up on the promulgation of legislative texts in the areas of national defense, security, and foreign affairs; improve the quality of strategic planning and research; and focus on formulating recommendations on key foreign policy activities that are effective and directly serve economic development, national sovereignty, and national interests.
