Cowboys Headlines: Schedule fallout; what if Pickens is long-term plan at WR over Lamb?

Thursday brought several Cowboys stars out to the ballpark to hit home runs for charity, but they also talked shop about the upcoming football season. As expected, all the main topics were touched upon: George Pickens and his offseason work with Dak Prescott, first impressions of rookie safety Caleb Downs, DeMarvion Overshown’s rehab status, and Prescott’s thoughts on the newly-released 2026 schedule.

But a new talking point has suddenly started to surface thanks to an offhand remark by a media member who covers the team. CeeDee Lamb has missed five games over the past two seasons. It wouldn’t be fair to call him injury-prone… but if George Pickens (who is two years younger) has another lights-out season in Dallas and the club decides it can afford only one of their marquee receivers… might Lamb be the one who is considered expendable?

That’s food for thought, perhaps, but today’s headlines really mirror the big topic in the league: the schedule. In addition to dissecting the Cowboys’ 2026 slate- from top storylines and the most intriguing matchups to the seldom-mentioned bonus Dallas is getting in the way of total rest days as compared to their opponents- we’ll take a deep dive into the best and worst offerings from the schedule release videos put out by the various teams Thursday night.

Elsewhere in league news, there’s growing debate over the sprawl of the NFL calendar. The league says they’re simply fulfilling demand by adding more standalone games on Saturdays and even Wednesdays… but is that thirst for more primetime coverage leaving Sunday afternoons with a watered-down product? Also, sad news regarding the recent death of an ex-Giant, and Deion Sanders describes the less-than-rosy rookie season his son Shedeur had in Cleveland.
