Imagine launching a free game under the umbrella of a cult franchise like PUBG, and seeing it disappear in less than two months. This is the brutal fate reserved for Pubg Blindspotthe top-down tactical spin-off that aimed to diversify the battle royale universe.
A timid launch and an accelerated decline
Released in Early Access on Steam on February 5, 2026, this 5v5 title never took off. Its historic peak of attendance was limited to 3,251 simultaneous players two days later, a starving figure for a free-to-play based on PUBG. Over the weeks, attendance fell drastically, falling below 200 daily connections at the end of March, with only 140 peaking over 24 hours shortly before closing. The feedback from the players, described as mitigés (69% positive out of more than 3,400 reviews), pointed to a lack of innovation in a market saturated with tactical shooters like Valorant. This context partly explains why Krafton did not extend the adventure, preferring to cut it short rather than get bogged down.
Sequoia Yang’s official reasons and thanks
The ARC team, behind the project initially known under the code name Project ARC and unveiled in 2024, communicated via Steam on March 26. Sequoia Yang, spokesperson for the studio, explained: “After careful consideration, we concluded that we could no longer sustainably offer the level of experience targeted in Early Access.” Priority given to player satisfaction, the service ended on March 30 at 11 a.m. CET. The team welcomed the community’s support: “To everyone who believed in this game and supported its artistic direction, we are deeply grateful. The ARC team will refocus and hope to offer new experiences soon. “This quick choice avoids a classic “spiral of death” of poorly launched F2Ps, where empty queues discourage newcomers.
PUBG franchise remains ambitious despite setback
Krafton is not giving up. During its 2025 financial report, the group posted a record turnover of 3.326 billion won (around $2.5 billion), driven to 13% by the PUBG IP. Among the current projects: Pubg Black Budgeta PC extraction shooter tested in alpha at the end of 2025 and entered early access in February 2026, as well as Valora top-down tactical shooter based on the PUBG universe. Two mobile FPS are also in development. This diversification is part of a broader strategy, with PUBG: Battlegrounds maintaining peaks of more than 800,000 daily players, proving the vitality of the parent brand.
Blindspot will have served as a life-size test: innovating outside of battle royale is not given to everyone. Krafton is refining its roadmap, and fans are waiting to see if the next titles will captivate where this spin-off failed.
