North Korean leader Kim Jong Un declared that plans to strengthen frontline units at the border with South Korea, as well as other major units, are essential to ‘deter war more rigorously’, the state news agency KCNA reported on Monday.

Kim made these remarks on Sunday during a meeting with division and brigade commanders from across the military, according to KCNA.

He called for an adaptation of the training system and the expansion of practical exercises to reflect changes in modern warfare and North Korea’s military development, KCNA reported.

Kim also said that the planned projects should redefine operational concepts in line with the rapid modernization of military equipment and techniques, and apply them to the combat training of units.

KCNA reported that Kim emphasized ideological loyalty and vigilance against the ‘enemy state’, a term used by North Korea to refer to South Korea.
