On May 30th, boxer Emilie Sonvico will compete for the IBA World Championship against Moroccan Mahjouba Oubtil. This event marks a historic moment for Uzès and a new milestone in the pursuit of titles for the Gard native.

As the European champion and WBC world champion, Emilie Sonvico will step back into the ring for a new global challenge. On Saturday, May 30th, she will fight at the Trintignant venue in Uzès, where she previously won the European title last July. This time, she will be vying for the IBA world welterweight belt against Mahjouba Oubtil from Morocco.

In Uzès, the event has already taken on a significant dimension. The world belt has arrived in the town and was presented during a press conference at the town hall this Monday. This marks a significant occasion for a city hosting such a high-profile match for the first time.

Coach Salem Maharzi, who trains the Gard champion, emphasized the importance of organizing such an event in Uzès and the support received from the city and the local community.

With less than two weeks until the fight, Emilie Sonvico is completely focused on her upcoming battle. Boxing at home brings a different dynamic for her as it allows her to maintain her routine and have a sense of familiarity and comfort leading up to the match.

Prior to the weigh-in on Friday, May 29th, where she must not exceed 66.678 kilos, Sonvico is making final adjustments and ensuring she meets the weight requirement.

Facing Mahjouba Oubtil will pose a tough challenge for Sonvico. Oubtil, a Moroccan athlete now based in Italy, previously competed in the 2012 London Olympics.

Despite the tough competition, Sonvico remains focused on her goal, viewing the IBA belt as a step towards unifying the world titles. As the current WBC titleholder, she aims to continue adding to her collection by pursuing the IBO and IBF titles.

The fight on May 30th in Uzès represents not just a homecoming for Sonvico but a new chapter in her global boxing journey, showcasing her relentless drive for success.

The event will feature a total of eight fights, with Sonvico and Oubtil headlining the night. The program will include three professional and five amateur bouts with athletes from the Uzès boxing club. The doors will open at 6 pm for spectators to also watch the Champions League final on a giant screen.

Tickets for the evening range from 30 euros to 15 euros for children, with partner table reservations available. For more information, contact 06 77 55 42 87.
